Illuminati

£89.95

Hand-crafted in the beautiful harbour village of St Aubin in the island of Jersey, this piece is from the Arcane collection.

Illuminati is inspired by the frequently cited Illuminati symbol, known as the “Eye of Providence” or the “All Seeing Eye” which is said to represent the omniscience of God watching over humanity.

This piece is hand crafted from metal, enamel and acrylics, together with an eerie glass eye. It is mounted in an oak or black finish wooden frame that measures 17.3cm x 17.3cm.

The original Illuminati group was founded in Bavaria on 1st May 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, an anti-clerical professor who wanted to limit the interference of the Church in public life. He based his secret society on the Freemasons, with a hierarchy and mysterious rituals, and named it the Order of Illuminati to reflect the enlightened ideals of its educated members.

In more recent years, the Illuminati rose to prominence through Dan Brown’s book and movie “Angels and Demons”, in which its main character, Robert Langdon, an expert on the Illuminati, determines that the ancient anti-religious organization thought extinct, have stolen a canister containing antimatter.
